Downloaded ZipCode.db failed to open
Jan 12th, 2004 at 8:16pm
Print Post Print Post
I just downloaded from the Lantica site the "ZipCode.db (1MB self-extracting exe) or Zipcode sample application for the Windows trial version".

When opening I get an error telling the database was created with the trial version of Sesame and is expired.

I thought it was supposed to work with the trial version and my trial version is brandnew (still 29 days to go)

Luc,

I just repacked the ZipCode app and uploaded it. Try downloading it again. Let me know if you can open this one.

Thank you Hammer for the immediate action but I'm afraid I'm still having the same problem.  The file loading progression goes till 100% and then the error box opens. I repeated the download and unzip procedure several times but in vain.

Are you sure that the message still says Expired? It doesn't say that you have 30 days left on the application?  ???

It keeps saying it was created with the trial version of Sesame and has expired.

I've checked my system date which is okay.

I just checked the files in Window Explorer and the Zipcode.db and *.dat are dated 12.17.2003 !!   I think that's the culprit

The file date has nothing to do with it. Neither does the date you downloaded the trial version. We've downloaded several times to several different machines and have no trouble opening this application with the trial version.

Try this:
Delete any old copies of ZipCode that you have on your system.
Unpack the app again, making absolutely sure that it is going where you think it's going. Sometimes Windows does not *actually* replace a file if it believes that it has not changed.
Let me know what happens.

Now we've downloaded the ZipCode files on another computer (where no previous copy of ZipCode was installed). Opening the file with Sesame Trail on that computer gives the same problem.

I'm afraid I'm at a bit of a loss here, Luc. In response to your issue with this, we've downloaded the trial version, downloaded the application, opened it with several different ages of the trial version, etc. We get the correct message, that the app will expire in 30 days, and it opens fine when we click OK.

Is anyone else having trouble using this app with the trial version?

Thanks for the confirmation, Bob. We'll try unpacking the trial version again.

Okay, I've tried everything I can think of and Zipcode always opens for me using the Trial version without a problem.  What operating system are you guys using?

Win98 seems to be treating this particular application differently for some reason. We'll track down why. Meanwhile, Win2K seems to no problem with it.

My earlier test was on WIN98 SE.  Just tried again on WIN98 ME, same problem.  Can probably try on XP tomorrow.

==================
Edited 30 minutes later:

Just tried on XP Pro, no problems.

Note:  Both tests were running the same remote Trial copy.  Desktop icons called Sesame Trial from mapped drive across network.  So executable and data files were coming from same remote server.  No local copy of Sesame Trial installed.
=======================
Another edit, another 30 minutes later...

Just tried on WIN95, same problem as on WIN98 systems.  This test had local copy of Sesame Trial and local source for zipcode application files.
