WordMerge, Modifying Value in merged field

Is there any way to modify the value of merge field in MS Word?  Instead of 20040311010, I would like it to take only last three digits, namely 010.  I know one can add one more element and modify the value in Sesame and then merge that new LE, but I would like to do this without adding any more LEs, if at all it is possible.

Is there anyway to merge the data from external database in merged fields using @xlookup commands?

In word merge programming
{\#x###} drops digits to left of the "x"

Thanks Becky.  Is there any way to get data from external application using, @lookup statement or otherwise while merging data in MS Word?

Still playing with that one, was trying to combine excel data with sesame data in a merge doc. But I now realize I will have to take the data into sesame to do the additional calculations required before merging. Not sure of the easiest way to do that it as yet.
Maybe one of the Laticans will jump in on this one.
