Is it possible to use programming and search functions on an image field?

It would be nice to search for all records that have/do not have an image.

Actually, yes!

On a Retrieve Spec, click in the Image Field, then press Space or double-click. The Image Selector will appear.

The secret is this: Whatever you type in the box marked "Select an image as search criteria" will be used as the Retrieve Spec. If you type =, you will get those records with no image. If you type d.., you will get those records where the image filename starts with d. And so on.
