Need help with Reports

I'm having two problems. I clicked on Print Preview for a report in Preview mode of DSR, but I get an error message "Can Not find the file C:\Sesame\Inventory report_2004_7_27_58.html (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and all required libraries are available."

I looked on my c:\sesame folder AND on the Server c:\sesame (which is mapped as G:\ on my client machine), and dont see the html report. Any thoughts?

ALso, I cant seem to figure out how to include data from a subrecord into the report I've build for the parent form. Any clues there?

Thanks,
Steve

Mine works OK:

In SDesigner,
Open a database (DSR),
Select Preview Application,
Perform a search update (to retrieve new results),
Select the report to preview, and
click ReportName (Preview).

It displays the report for me.

Incidentally, I prefer to edit the report then with Microsoft Excel.

I am using Sesame 1.0.4 on a single user machine.

Wonder why it doesn't work for you...

Jack

Thanks,

I tested this in single user mode and it workes fine but doesnt work when connected over the LAN in client/server mode.

Hopefully the Lanticans will fix this, or tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks,
Steve

Hello Steve,

What is happening is you need to set the Sesame Report Variable for the client. Instructions for this can be found on pages 433-437 of the Sesame User Guide. You may need to restart your computer in order for this to take affect.

This happens if the Server and the Client are installed in different directories or have different working directories.

Let me know how it works.

I figured out how to print a report using the subrecords. I made a second report (subreport) in the second database, then linked the two together from the main database report builder in dsr.

Please let me know if there is a simpler method. (ie. it would be nice if the subrecords would show up in the drop down box of the parent form)

Thanks Ray! I dont think I ever would have found that in the manual. Smiley

I also see those reports were being saved to my desktop (win 2000) by default (?)

In 1.0.5:

If you are running client/server and the report location environment variable is not set, the default location is the "Start In" location of the client (as set in the client's icon's properties). Or if you are not using icons (hate 'em myself), the report goes to the current working directory for the client.

If you have not set the icon's Start In location, it may well be the Desktop is the default on some systems.

Is there a way to add an "image LE" to a report. It would be GREAT if we could show a product thumbnail next to the line item on an invoice. (To name just one example) Especially printing to a color printer. Customers would be blown away (and then ask what software we use to print our invoices!) Smiley

I see how to display the image filename by adding the value box, but I would rather have the image itself show on the report.

Any ideas?

Steve,

Sorry it took awhile to respond to this. The delay is mainly because I was surprised that it didn't just work by binding the value box to an image field. It used to work. I had to go find out what happened.

I did find where I broke this while fixing something else. I'll take care of it for the next release. Meanwhile, you can use HTML to embed images wherever you want in your report.
