OK is there anyway AT ALL to update a sesame database that you translated from Q&A originally if after 5 days of work and telling people NOT to touch it in Q&A you find out somebody has been doing all their normal data entry in Q&A still since they thought you weren't refering to them when you said EVERYBODY STAY OUT...

Export the records from Q & A to a txt file for the last five days then import them into sesame.   Wink

the problem with the database is when I remodelled it I did a complete remodel... I thought the last time I did and ascii export it when line for line and when I placed it into the new database I had to completely redo anything anyway...

I only have about 3 elements that are in their original locations   Tongue

I done that with one of my databases, I went into the text file and wrote down the position of each field then told sesame where to import the fields or elements into, that was the only way I have found, sounds like lots of work but it didnot really take that long, I had to put my brain in gear first.   Wink

You do know that in the left bottom window in sesame you can highlight a element and use the arrow keys to move it to the position needed, you can use the mouse, I just found the arrow keys to work better once you get things where you want them then run import, maybe work with a backup get it working right before importing into the actual Db. Good Luck !   Kiss

First thing is to remove the old Q&A database so EVERYBODY won't do it again!.....

I believe it is easier to arrange the TXT or CSV file BEFORE importing into Sesame.  I have successfully imported Q & A data into the Sesame files where I have rearranged the order of the elements.  This can be done when exporting from Q & A:

1. Make a sequence list of the elements in Sesame.
2. In Q & A export, when you get to the MERGE SPEC screen, you are able to number the fields in the order you want them to appear in Sesame.  The Q & A help screen describes this.

Then when importing into Sesame, there is a minimum of re-arranging.

Hope this helps!

I thought about that, but I decided it was time to learn how Sesame done things.   Wink
