We have our data base set up with rabies vaccination numbers and we need to print address labels to remind our residents to renew their pet information.

The easiest way is to export your data and do a merge in your word processor.

If your word processor doesn't do labels, let us know the Avery number of the labels you are using and we can probably give you a PrintString routine that you can use in a Mass Update.

Thank you.   Smiley

I'm going to try to figure out how to merge the information.

If I can't do it on my own, i'll be back to ask for further instruction. Cheesy

I have no idea of where to start, really.

I'm trying to use microsoft word to print address labels.

I need about four fields (from Sesame) to work together to get enough information to form one single address label.

Is there a way to get the information from the table screen?

Jenni,

Do you know how to export your address information from Sesame? If not, look at the section on Export starting on page 288 of the Sesame User Guide. You should be able to just accept the default options, except that you will probably want to turn on Field Name Headers.

Let me know if you need help exporting. Otherwise, let me know when you've got an export done.  Smiley

No problem. Everything's Greek the first time you do it.  Wink

For MS Word 2003, there is an 11 page tutorial that can be printed out for convenience entitled: "Printing mailing labels in Word".  The location:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011269731033.aspx

I have used this routine with a TXT file exported from Sesame.

"Kali Mera"  (greek for "Good day"

Okay, i'm back on this task with a very limited amount of time because I start a new job next week.

I have read the microsoft instructions about mail merging but I need to know how to set up a Sesame file with a couple of different fields to make up a single address.

Can anyone give me specific instructions for this, please?

Do you already have a Sesame database/form with the address fields?

I'm not sure about what you are asking....

I have a form that is linked to the data base.  It has the address broken up... name (one field), address (another field), City (field), State/Zip (yet another field).  It would take all of those fields to make up one single address label.  I need to make over 1,000 address labels to mail out reminders to the Village residents.

I hope that I provided enough information to asnwer your question.

Thank you for your help!  As you can tell, i'm LOST! Wink

Jenni,

1. In Sesame do a search & update of the file containing your addresses.
2.In the left bottom pane click on the left or right arrow until it says export "your file"
3. Then click on each little box next to the field you want to export you will see a "O" appear.
4.Then Right click on the bar at the top of that bottom pane and choose run.
5.Give the file a name.
6. open Word
7.Choose Tools-mail merge
8. From there Word will walk you through it.Only 3-steps in Word-2000

Hope this is what you need.

Jenni,

For best results with Word, when doing your export as described by ProudPoppy, you should choose Field Name Header in the Ascii Export dialog where you set an export file name. This will add a header row to your export that Word will like.

I would like to thank you both for the information.

I plan to start working on this first thing in the morning!

Hammer, can you explain how to create this header?

I'm not stupid, I swear i'm not!  Cheesy

Thanks again!

This is very a very important task for me to complete for the Village before I leave.  The others here have even less experience with computers that I do and this will make their jobs so much easier.  Grin
