db failed to open
Feb 21st, 2005 at 9:17pm
Print Post Print Post
My application closed (seemed to do this by itself, but perhaps I hit something) and then wouldn't open. I rebooted, but still got "failed to open" with that dismal sound.
So I tried to fool it by closing Sesame, opening Sesame designer, made a little change in a form and tried to reconcile to existing application, but I got a message: "Failure while reconciling application: C:\sesame\data\reel5-1.db.  Application is already being served."
Re-booting, trying again didn't help.

When Sesame gets improperly shut down the application that it has open becomes locked. This is a harmless condition. To unlock a locked application follow these steps

Click File
Click Server Administration
Log in (username: admin    password: hello)
On the unlock application tab double click on your DB file

Thanks, that seemed like great advice, but I couldn't log in.  I entered admin, hello, clicked accept and nothing happened except that the login and password boxes went blank.

You will want to make sure that you are typing both the username and password in all lowercase. If you changed your admin password and forget it send me an e-mail at support@lantica.com

Hi Diane...

If for some reason Ray cannot resolve this for you, I still have a copy of reel5-1.db from SANE that I have not modified yet.  Let me know if you need that.

Hi Bob,

I believe she was able to get in after I found out what her admin password had been set to.

Thanks to Ray, I'm able to move on to many new mistakes and confusions.  Yes, I'm learning slowly as I go along.  My mental state has improved since I decided to consider learning Sesame a fun hobby and not an essential improvement to my business.  Certainly plan to get there some day, meanwhile I'm enjoying the journey.
