We are going to upgrade our server in the next few days. This will include the hard disk. Does Sesame have any issues with moving files using for example Norton Ghost?

Nope. Just make sure that you are not moving open applications.

No problems with Ghosting and Sesame files,  but I have found that changing servers usually has some unexpected issues.  When you are done, beware of any programming that is referencing the server.   There may be items that no longer run, but the problem is not on the new server.

On the workstations:
1.  Some Drive Letters may need to be remapped.

2.  Also may find some programming/icons/shorcuts that may need to change any UNC references to the Server.

3.  Server and ODBC connections may also need to be redefined.

Thanks Bob, As my programmig is mostly stuff I designed in QA4, and well before we had a server, I shouldn't have any issues with that.
I think I read somewhere I can reassign drive letters in Windows if that should become an issue.

Ok, I have moved sesame to the new "server" but, I can only open apps on the serving machine. Both of the others open Sesame, but are looking in Documents and settings for my apps.
The Server line reads: C:\Sesame\Data\sesame.exe -server Center

The Client line reads: C:\Sesame\Data\sesame.exe -client Center

I have a batch file in the start up directory that starts the server, but the server always shows 0 of 1

If a client connects to server, than that client can only see the files that the server can see. So from a client computer if you go to the C drive that is the server's C drive that you are looking at.

What others? Are you referring to the clients, or to something else?

Does your batch file set the cwd to "C:\Sesame" and then run "Program\Sesame.exe -Server MyComp" or does it just run "C:\Sesame\Program\Sesame.exe -Server MyComp"? If it is the later one, then Sesame can not find it's s_conf.cnf file which is the configuration file that tells Sesame how many users are allowed to connect to the server.

The client machines, try to open the apps, in documents and settings.
Is this a feature that could be changed in a future release? The inability to look above the directory that initially opens?

It is the later. perhaps that's the whole issue. I've got to kick the operator off that machine again, and will get back to you.

yes the later will cause the cwd to be in the Documents and Settings folder and you will not be able to go anywhere.

Normally you can go to any directory you specify in the rootdirs.ini file, but if Sesame can not find the rootdirs.ini file then you are stuck in the cwd.

The file reads:

Data
Data\Samples
.
[DRIVES]

Is that correct?
Should it be in the same directory as the Sesame Program?
It's currently in the default, or at least where instal placed it.  C:\Sesame

As it sits now, I don't have any option but to place files in, or below C:\sesame\data

What I'd like to see, is the program open at the default directory to save, but, all directories in the tree above being available.

yes that is the correct rootdirs.ini file.
The rootdirs.ini file should be in C:\Sesame
The cwd set in the batch file should be C:\Sesame

You batch file should look something like this
Code
Select All
C:
cd Sesame
Program\Sesame -Server MyComputerName

Is this what your batch file looks like?

Is it possible to modify the ini so that could happen?

Just put whichever directories you want in the .ini file.

Something like this.....
Code
Select All
C:\Sesame\Data
C:\Sesame
C:\

Thanks Ray, I'm in the middle of the move to the warp drive computer right now, but I'll give it a shot when I get the chance.

Where do you go on the main site to change my customer contact info?
