Group Headers Repeating in Reports

I finally figured out how NOT to repeat group headers in reports, when there is a break element set up in the report.  (This has been bugging me for quite sometime and I thought I would share it).

It appears for this to work that GROUP HEADER 1 must contain your static headings.  When I designed most of my reports, I would start with the group header first and then add additional group headers to deal with multiple group footers.  This "pushed" the static headings into group 2, 3,.....and so on.  Anytime the report break was applied, the heading would show up at this point on the page.

As an example:

Group header 1    - contains headings
Group header 2    - no elements
Group header 3    - no elements
Group header 4    - no elements

Group Body          -  value box elements

Group Footer 1    - Count calculation
Group Footer 2    - Line
Group Footer 3    - Count calculation
Group Footer 4    - Line

I have set a break on Group Headers 2 and 3.

Hopefully future Sesame releases will allow us to repeat these headings at the start of every page along with the report name/title.

Bye for now.

Louis

For what it's worth:

You can add new Groups either before or after existing groups, so they don't "push" anything around. Also, you can reorder existing groups to get them into whatever priority order you need.

Erika:

To deal with existing reports, I re-ordered the groups but I have found that the group footers obviously follow the particular group header, thereby not allowing me to place the footer in the order I need it.

i.e. the header that contained all the static text had a footer associated with it that had count/sum calculations in it.  I really wanted just Line elements but this was in group footer 2 .

Bad organizing on my part - but now I know.

Thanks,

Louis
