Printing Problem

Printed a report to Explorer 6.0. All the information is displayed, each page containing elements with information on the top half of a page, and a drawing on the bottom half.

When I select "Print Preview" the first four pages are fine, then the top half of the fifth record (ALL elements)is missing, with the drawing being displayed on the top half of the page and the sixth record's elements displayed on the bottom half of the page. All subscequent pages are displayed in the same manner.

It is ALWAYS the fifth record, and NEVER reverts back later in the report.

Sending to: HP Laser Jet 1160

Any ideas?

The problem is repeatable. I've deleted the record in question, with no change. The next record is displayed incorrectly again.

What happens if you delete or don't include the fourth record?

I tried that - the next record, the fifth, which is now the fourth, has the same result. I tried retrieving different data sets, all with the same results. Still working on it.

When you run a report, an HTML file is created and shown in your browser. You can look at that HTML file in Notepad. See if the "missing" data appears in the HTML. If it does, then something is being formatted in a way that is confusing the browser. If the data does not appear in the raw HTML, then something else is wrong.

The data DOES appear in the raw HTML - I can scroll down in the browser and view it. That's the confusing part. I can see all the data except in print preview or a hard copy, and it's always only ONE record.

Given that it always happens with the use of a particular print driver (both print and print preview use the print driver), I would start looking for problems associated with that driver.

That's kind of the conclusion I came to. Unfortunately, there are no new drivers available. Sure am going to hate to be printing like this. It's usable, just u-g-l-y.

How long till a report writer/generator is available for Sesame??

I've got a query in to tech support at HP, but I KNOW how that'll go: "It's a Microsoft problem with the browser, sir!" and Microsoft: "We never make ANYTHING that doesn't work right!!"  Yubba-Dubba- BOOOO!

Sure glad support here isn't like that. You guys (and gals) are great!! Thanks.

What OS are you using?

I have had a similar problem with hp.

If your using XP Try using the hp laserjet (no numbers) or the laserjet 1320 drivers. It should print fine, the only problem you will have is with the replace toner feature, but you will know when you are running out even of they do not tell you.

This worked for me anyway. Good luck.

Ah, if only I had my XP from home. Am at work - 98SE.

Thanks for the idea, in case I do run across a similar situation at home.

Sesame does have a report writer / generator now. It does not have a "print engine" that can interpret and then render HTML. But, even if it did, it would still have to use the print drivers supplied on your system.

An upcoming version of Sesame does have an integrated print engine.
