Retrieve Spec on a Boolean Check Box

I am trying to create a retrieve spec on a boolean check box with no success.

I only want the spec to retrieve those records where the condition is 0, NO, False, etc.  The field is set to Yes/No.

I tried the program editor on the field but to no avail.

Any thoughts ?

Thanks,

Louis

I recently had a similar question with Radio Buttons.    My question is here: http://www.lantica.com/Forum2/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=gen_disc;action=display...

See Hammer's response with some suggestions,  Her reply noted that CheckBoxes were a similar issue.

Hello Louis,

If it is a boolean check box then all need to do is click the check box until it is at the 'No' setting and hit F10 to retreive the records. A check box has three different settings, they are Yes, No and N/A.

Yes has a Check mark in it
No is a down box with your background color of the check box showing
N/A is an up box with the background color of your Form.

If you are unsure of what value your check box is set to then just hit F6 to bring up the field editor when the check box has focus. The field editor will display one of three things. If it has a 1 then it is Yes,  if it has a 0 then it is No, if it is blank then it is N/A. You can also enter a 0 into the field editor and hit F6 an that will set the check box to the 'No' state.

If you have any questions let me know,
-Ray

Ray:

It will only retrieve records in the YES position.  When I select the NO position and hit F10, nothing happens.

Erika mentioned in Bob's link above that Radio and Check Buttons only offer one choice.

For now I have set up another check box to deal with this.

Thanks,

Louis

Hello Louis,

If you select No, Hit F10 and a message appears in the lower left hand corner saying "No records returned by query" then there are no records that have a value of 0 in the check box, but they could have a blank.

Try this instead:
On your retrieve spec change your check box to be checked.
On the menu tree choose "Inverted Search"

This will get you all the records that do not have a 1 in the checkbox, which includes both the '0' records and the blank records.

Erika said that Radio and Check buttons only allow you to choose one option at a time not that they only offer one choice.

Ray:

The inverted search is a neat feature just like the Remove from current search feature.

However, you cannot save this as a saved retrieve spec (unless I am missing something).

Anyway, I have dealt with the matter using a radio box with two choices.

Thanks for the help,

Louis
