Picture in Report

Print Post Print Post
Hi -

I added a "Static Picture" element to my report header.

I assigned the label as the full path to the picture:

C:\Sesame\Data\Pics\OfficeDepot.jpg

(I also tried making the name of the layout element the same as the full path to the picture).

Nothing worked.  I do not see a picture.

How can I get a picture inserted to the header of my report?

Thanks!

- Spencer

I thought that would work, but must be missing the obvious.

But you could probably add an unbound value element with programming to include HTML code for image source, something like this (watch quotes in quotes):

ThisElement = "<img src=" C:\Sesame\Data\Pics\OfficeDepot.jpg" alt="Office Depot" border="0">"

Hi Bob -

Sesame did not like <img src etc. and I couldn't find anything in the manual to cover it.

No cigar!   Roll Eyes

Two more things to check out:

1. From the manual:  The image must in the Application Image Path.  And fill in the label information RELATIVE to the Application Image path.

If Application Path = pics
Then Label should only be OfficeDepot.jpg

See User Guide, page 80.
--------------------------------------

2.  Try changing the image to bmp vs. jpg

Spencer,

What is your application Image Path? You can find it in the Application Property Manager which is under the application folder in Sdesigner.

I'm going to assume you installed Sesame in the default directory, and have not changed the start in directory of your icons.

If it is Blank, type a . in it. Just a simple period.

Now make the label of the static image "Data\Pics\OfficeDepot.jpg".

If that does not work try copying the sample diamond.jpg picture that came with sesame into the C:\Sesame\Data\Pics directory and set your image label equal to
"Data\Pics\Diamond.jpg"

If that works then you need to open "OfficeDepot.jpg" up in an image editor and resave it as a jpg or as a bmp or png file.

Ray -

This is sooooooo frustrating, I can't possibly describe my feelings.  First a little background, just cuz I feel like "venting" (but I will do it politely and appropriately, I hope).   Cheesy

When I originally installed Sesame, I put it in my C:\Program Files\ directory, because that's where every other single program I have is installed ... and that has become (and has been, for quite some time now) the "standard" for the Windows industry.

Obviously, though, for some reason, Lantica recommended putting it in the root directory.  So, all this time I have been "out of synch" with everyone on this forum, Insider examples and sample files, etc. etc.

So, a few weeks ago, I "bit the bullet" and changed Sesame to C:\Sesame.  It took two days of "cleanup" work in programming, icons, etc. etc. to have everything working properly but I did it.

So, when I got up this morning and saw your response, I thought "great" .... now your answer was easier for me to implement because Sesame was in the "default" path.

So - I ignored everying else in your response and "went for the gold."  I changed the label on my static image led to read "data\pics\officedepot.jpg" - selected preview application, ran the report and WALLA - THERE WAS MY IMAGE.  At that point, I was ecstatic.  After two short weeks, a "payoff" for having put Sesame in my root directory.  My only mistake (and oversight was that I had tried either the full path name ... or just the picture file name and never tried starting with "data").

Sooooooo, I quickly and excitedly SAVED THE DESIGN LAYOUT, closed the the design tab and reconciled the database.  This is a procedure I have done hundreds of times, so I know that I can do it correctly.

I quickly and eagerly, opened my database, selected the report in preview mode and GOOD GRIEF there was NOTHING in the header where the Image should have been.  After the initial panic, I thought "wait" perhaps it is simply a graphic display problem (or whatever) so I tried printing the report.  NO GRAPHIC.

I must have gone through the redesign, reconcilde, print procedures a dozen times to be sure I wasn't overlooking something really simple - in my haste and excitement.  NADA

Please, DO YOUR MAGIC!  I want this image on my report - and I would like to "present" it to someone later this morning.

Thanks!  (and sorry for all the extraneous junk - just needed to spit it out and be done with it "once-and-for-all").  lol

Oh, by the way, because this didn't work, I went back and re-read your repsonse. I did check my application image path and the . (just a dot) was in it.

Hello Spencer,

Right click your Sesame Icon.
Go down to properties
Click the shortcut tab
What does it say next to "Start In:"?

Ray -

You ARE A GEM!!!   I KNEW YOU COULD FIX IT!!!

I got your "message".  I checked the properties and found that Start In was set for C:\Sesame\Data.

So, I went back to designer, changed the label to read "pics\officedepot.jpg" and previewed the application.  No Graphic.

Reconciled the database, went to my Office file and WALLA - GRAPHIC RIGHT WHERE I WANT IT.

Checked the properties on my designer file and 'SURE NUFF' IT was set to C:\Sesame.  Changed the properties for SDesigner to C:\Sesame\Data - and now the two programs are in synch.  The picture file shows both in preview mode and in the database.

THANK YOU!
THANK YOU!
(consider this repeated another hundred times or so).

Soooooo - have I got my "bases covered" now --- or do you suggest I check anything else for general ease of functioning and "uniformity" with other Sesame users?

Thanks!

- Spencer
