Report - Sort Spec Removal

Hi -

Having once attached a sort spec how do I remove it completely ... cuz something is wrong.

I pull up a sort spec in my database.  I sort my records.  The records are sorted properly.  The same sort spec had been previously attached to the report design.

(After initially attaching the sort spec I may have modified it in the database).

The bottom line is that although the records are properly sorted, when I print the report, it is not sorted properly.

It must have something to do with the fact that the spec was previously assigned to the report and that is why I want to get rid of it completely.

Thanks!

Hello Spencer,

To remove the Sort spec follow these steps
Open Sdesigner
Open your DSR file
Expand the Reports folder
Expand the folder that contains the report you wish to change
Click on the green dot next to the report to open it
Under the Commands section click "Attach Specs"
Change Spec Type to Sort Spec
In the Attach Spec drop down choose "Select a Different Spec"
In the Select a Spec drop down choose "[NONE] - Detach Current Spec"
Click Attach
Click Close
Click Save Layout Design

Ray -

It is AMAZING how EASY it is to OVERLOOK the OBVIOUS.

I was thinking that I never saw a "none" option or surely I would have selected it.

I don't use the attach specs much, so I must have (luckily) done it right the first time and "screwed up" every time after that.

I never looked INTO the drop-down box under "Select A Spec."  To attach a spec I was clicking on it in the list of specs and then clicking attach.  (DUH!!!)  So, I was never changing the original spec I had luckily managed to attach in the past.  And, of course, since I was looking in the spec viewer, rather than in the drop-down box, I never saw the option of choosing "none" (or surely I would have done that).   Smiley

Now that I see how "stupid" (in the nicest sence of the meaning - cuz I always try to be nice to myself - lol) I was, I was able to properly attach my NEW spec and it works like a charm.

And - if I ever should need to remove a spec - now I know how to do it.

Thanks again.

I do have another question which I'll post separately not to "confuse" the threads.

By the way, is there any chance of cloning you and sending the clone to Tampa for a vacation and to help me?   lol
