That's exactly what I was looking for and it certainly looks easy enough. 

So, from my perspective, it simply makes the "multiple xlookup" a 2 step process, first to retrieve the values and then to assign them (with or without "validation" of any value(s)) 

While a little less convenient than one statement, that's not bad at all and certainly far better than writing separate (when many fields are involved) xlookup statements.
