I have been a QA user for 15 years.  I have about 70 integrated databases.   I am reluctantly beginning to consider switching to Sesame.   I ordered my starter pack last week, and it won't b here till Next week.

1. Where can I best spend my time over the next few days learning what I am up against?

2. Do I understand it correctly that Sesame doesn't use field numbers in programing?

Howdy,

I'm one of the authors of Sesame, so my advice might be a bit biased, but I thought I might point out some the online resources available:

The Lantica support library has example apps and "one sheets". The one sheets are one page explanations on how to do some of the common operations.

http://www.lantica.com/Support/sesame_library.html

The Sesame FAQ need updated, but still contains a lot of answers:

http://www.lantica.com/Support/KBase/sesame_faq.html

The resources page contains links to companies that support Sesame, all of which are happy to answer questions:

Lantica has another web site: http://www.sesamedatabase.com that has some useful information.

Of course there is this forum. Many of the most experienced Sesame users check here often, as well as the Sesame developers and the Lantica support personel - all of whom are happy to answer specific questions.

If you go to the "downloads" page: http://www.lantica.com/Support/downloads.html you can download the full documentation as PDF files, and begin reading about Sesame. You can also download and use the trial version until your purchased version arrives.

In answer to your question about field numbers: Sesame uses layout element (similar to fields in Q&A) names in place of field numbering. It also has the concept of "ThisElement" to provide for generic LE (Layout Element) access. When you translate your Q&A databases, the field numbers in code will be turned into the corresponding LE names.
