Sesame Training Classes in Boston

I'd like to do a session in Boston for Mar 21-23, 2006. I have some people who have been waiting patiently for a while now to get enough votes together for Boston. If you want training in Boston, let me know by voting!

Would these be beginner or advanced classes?

Sorry, Scott. It's still the beginner classes. I'll be doing the advanced classes all summer in Cleveland.

Scott -

Come on down to Tampa on the 26th and you can get to enjoy both an advanced class and beautiful weather.

oops - on second thought, I think the 26th is beginner/intermediate.  But what the "h," come on down, anyhow.  I'll show you my "snazzy" sendmail program.

Oh man, I'd love to but the Boss just sent me to Las Vegas, I don't think he will quickly spring for Tampa.  If I were independently wealthy I'd pay my own way...but then if I were independently wealthy I'd hire you to design and program my databases!

OK.  Looking forward to that.  What are the chances that 2.0 will be released before then?

I'm wondering if I should take the beginner classes again.  Much of what I learned last time has leaked out of my head.  Plus, I've been playing with the program for a while now and better know what kind of questions to ask and just what I need the program to do for me.  I wouldn't need the "Translating" or "Designing" classes, just the "Programming" class.

On the other hand I'm probably a level ahead of the other beginners and my semi-advanced questions might bog down the process for the rest of them.  Heck, I bogged it down enough the first time through!

Erika, what do you think?

Honestly? A refresher on the basic concepts probably isn't a bad idea at this stage. Things often make more sense once you've got a hook to hang them on.

[begin scolding]
If I recall correctly, while you didn't bog down the class with questions, you were one of the people who always seemed to be head down over the laptop working on something other than what the rest of us were working on.  Wink
[end scolding]

Seriously though, I think the class may also be much more hands on now than when you took it. I don't recall when I switched it over, but I changed the beginner programming class to be a very hands-on class where you actually enter all the code into a working application as we look at each technique. It's made a big difference, I'm told.

Yoicks!  Sorry.  I really was paying attention, but sometimes once I understood what was being demonstrated I either experimented with it or put the red Queen on the black King.  I'm a Gemini; I multi-task.

Sounds good, I'll see if I can talk the boss into paying for it.  Thanks!

Which class would be best to take to learn about Natural vs. Relational Linking?  I'm having a hard time with the manual (the "record collection" example just isn't clicking for me) and I know I'll need to use one or the other when I finally merge my customer/workorder/invoice databases (otherwise, as in Q&A, I'll have duplicate data everywhere and huge filesizes).

The Advance Application Design class would be the best fit.

Thanks.  This summer in Ohio for that?

In other news, the Boss agreed to send me back to school for the classes in Boston.  I hope they happen. Smiley

Yes. I believe that the advanced classes are all taught here.

Yep.  I then went to http://www.hammerdata.com/classvotes.html to see how it stands in the votes, but I am unable to interpret what that little red line under "Class Units" means.

That red bar represents the interest so far in the classes.

OK, good...but what's the scale?  On my screen it's about an inch wide.  Does that mean 1 vote or 10?  Will it grow longer as more votes are tallied?  At what point does it reach critical mass?  Is red a negative?  Will it turn green when enough votes are tallied to justify a class?

Just curious.

I am not sure of the scale or what the minimum number of registrations are for the class.

I do know that it grows longer as more votes are cast. Red does not mean negative, it is just the color that Erika used, and as far as I know it does not turn green.

It had more of a use when there were multiple locations competing against each other to be scheduled. It was easy to see who had the most registrations.
