Hi -

Has anyone found the "best" way to convert Q&A Write documents to MS Word in order to retain as much of the formatting as possible?

Thanks!

Check out tools for PDF995 at http://pdf995.com/

1.  Set up a PDF printer.
2.  Print Q&A merge document to PDF printer
3.  Open file with PDFEdit995 utility that will allow to save as Word document.

Perhaps the merge document that is printed could have <<fieldname>> inserted into the merge fields to help locate positions of data merge fields to be entered.

OR print out a Q&A merge document withno merged records, just the text and the  *merge field* names showing.

Note: all references to printing mean to PDF995 or similar type of printer.

Bob -

I'm a little confused by your response.  As for "merged" data that is not an issue. I am talking about a simple "text" document saved in Q&A Write.

When I referred to retaining format, I meant things like paragraphs being left in tact (rather than having all text run together) etc. etc.

When you say "Set up a PDF printer" and then say "Print Q&A Merge Document to PDF printer" .... how can you do this when PDF is not listed as one of the printers Q&A has on it's printer list?

Let's suppose I want this particular message to be saved as an MS Word document.  All I have to do is (1) copy it, (2) open an MS Word new document, (3) paste it and (4) save it  ... and it's done.

Same text, same paragraphs, etc. etc.

Apparently, when you "copy to clipboard" text from a Q&A Write document, it must save it to a built in clipboard because you can't paste it except within Q&A.

Certainly I can save a Q&A Write document as an ASCII text file but then the basic formatting (such as paragraphs, etc.) is lost.  I can't help but feel that there must be a simple way to "transfer" the information from Q&A write to MS Word.

Additional ideas will be very much appreciated.  Thanks!

See my link to PDF995.  The 995 is the cost, $9.95.

This installs as a "normal" printer on your Printer picklist.

I do understand that you want to print a Q&A formatted document.  I mentioned "merge" in case it was a merged document vs. just a normal unmerged document.

Assume document prints out to LPT3.
Install PDF995 printer, and set it to capture LPT3.  Will probably neet to do Net Use.

Whatever format it looked like from Q&A to printer, should look the same to PDF, but it is printed to a PDF file instead of to a printer.

Now use PDFEdit to open the PDF document and SaveAs a Word document.
