Word Merge - Sesame's built-in Word Processor

Sesame 1.1.4 is now out and I urge everyone to upgrade to it.

For Sesame 114 there are several new sample applications, and another update to Word Merge. Word Merge is now up to Mk VII (that's seven!), and it's MUCH easier to implement than the first versions.

In case you don't know about Word Merge, it's a technique, employing a single chunk of programming, which allows you to effortlessly use Microsoft Word as your 'Sesame word processor'.  You can merge to a single record (the current one) or multiple records (the current result set). You get a picklist of documents to choose from, without having to create that yourself (the picklist consists of all the .doc documents in the specified folder, which can be on the network or locally). You can build your own library of merge documents and mailing labels by simply opening one document, editing it, and saving it with a different name. It will then appear on the list next time.

You can set up Word Merge on your own database in about 30 - 60 mins. Thereafter, merge documents or mailing labels are as simple as they were in Q&A, maybe even simpler!  And, as you're using Microsoft Word, you can make the document look any way you want, even including tables, graphics etc.

If you tried Word Merge Mk I and found it too difficult, or maybe were even put off by looking at the code involved, give Word Merge a second chance with Mk VII. The 'programming' consists of pasting a chunk of code from a text file, and changing just 3 settings - which are clearly labelled - to suit your own setup.  Word Merge Mk VII also includes a great deal more error checking, so if something should not be in the right place you are told very clearly what needs changing so you're not left guessing.

To get the new Word Merge, go to the downloads page, log in, and then select the download "Sesame Sample Applications". Word Merge is included, together with installation instructions. There's also a sample database already set up and with sample merge letters and labels, so you can see how it works straight away.
