Drop-down navigation not working in "Merge"

I'm merging two applications, and when I click on the drop-down arrow in the "Select an application file to merge" box I am unable to select any other directory.  Is that a bug or by design?

I can get around it by copying my target application into the same directory as the open app, but I thought I'd mention it.

The file dialogs in Sesame are designed to limit users to the directories specified in your rootdirs.ini file. If there is no rootdirs file, they are limited to your current working directory.

OK, thanks.  I have a rootdirs.ini file in my C:/Sesame directory.  It reads:
Quote:
Data
Data\Samples
.
[DRIVES]

I'd like to be able to access all directories under C/:Sesame.  Do I need to add a listing for each directory?

Hello Scott,

Are you running Client/Server or standalone?

If Standalone check the Start in Directory of your Sesame Icon. If it is not C:\Sesame, then you are not using that rootdirs.ini file as Sesame will look for it in the Current Working Directory, unless told to look somewhere else.

If Client/Server you will need to check the rootdirs.ini file on the server as well as the Start In for the Sesame Server Icon.

If your start in is set correctly as C:\Sesame, then that entry in the Rootdirs.ini file that is just a '.' will resolve to the C:\Sesame directory. So there is no need to add it as it is already there, if you are set up correctly.

Than you.  Currently I am using standalone.  I will eventually be moving to client/server but at that time everything will be in one directory, because my co-workers are all insane and who know what they'll try to do.  (Yesterday my boss saved a .jpg onto the server and spent 15 minutes trying to figure out how to email it as an attachment to the dispatcher downstairs.  He finally gave up and called me.  I, of course, pointed out that the dispatcher had access to the same server as he did, so....  Sheesh.)

I think what caused my merge problem is that I did not start Sesame from a shorcut, but by double clicking on a .db file (this is my usual practice, as my files are currently spread all over, and it's easier than navigating from a drop-down list.  Since the db file was in a sub-directory, the program probably never referenced the rootdirs.ini file.

Hello Scott,

When Sesame is started by double clicking on a DB file the Current Working Directory(Start In Directory) is going to be the directory where that DB file is stored. If you want to be able to do this and still be able to browse for other files you will need to set the SESAME_ROOTDIRS_PATH command on your computer. Have a look at page 463 of the Sesame 1.1 User Guide.

Thanks Ray.  I gave it a try and set the SESAME_ROOTDIRS_PATH to C:\Sesame...and Sesame locked up on me twice when I clicked "merge".  And though the Administration function said that my application was unlocked, I still had to unlock it each time.  So I deleted SESAME_ROOTDIRS_PATH and everything was happy again.

But it's OK, I'll just have to remember that when it comes time to merge I should use the Sesame shortcut which starts Sesame in it's own directory, instead of double-clicking on a db file.  Thanks again!

Hello Scott,

You need to set SESAME_ROOTDIRS_PATH to C:\Sesame\rootdirs.ini.

The documentation states that the value in that environment variable supersedes the path and Filename....
