Need font conversions

I need to convert about 6-10 font files from ttf to afm or tfm.  The only utilities to do that seem to be some linux utilities.  Is there anyone who can make these conversions for me?  No rush, I am just trying to add some fonts to Q&A but cannot do with ttf.  Trying to test out hardware that provided its own fonts.

My release of Linux (Suse) comes with ttf2afm, which converts ttf to afm. I've never used it (most linux desktops can use X11, ttf, or Postscript fonts). Send your font files to me and I'll see what I can do.

Your .afm files should be in your mail. Are they what you need?

Well, they were recognized by the utility,  Grin
but ended up with an error message,  Angry
and then ended up with a SUCCESS message.   Grin

But the final result was not working.   Shocked

I can start to chase that, but I will assume for the time being that I do have good afm files.   Roll Eyes

Thanks for your efforts.

It sound like what you want is a conversion from truetype font to a Postscript font. A Postscript font is comprised of several files: a pfa or pfb file that contains the actual font and a afm file that stores the font "metrics". Combined these two files: the pfa or pfb file and the afm file make one font.

Only a few applications, specifically Tex, seem to able to use a afm file to enable the program to use a ttf font.

Bob,
I have sent you the .pfa files and the .afm files that comprise the type 1 Postscript fonts resulting from converting your truetype fonts.

Hi Mark.

Just to let you know I got the same results with the last set of fonts also.

I had been using QAFONT.EXE to append the fonts to the printer file.  And I was getting the error message in the big red error message block.  And using a hex editor I could see that the fonts appeared to be there, but were not showing up in the font list.

But today is a new dawning, and I am now closer to a solution.
What I needed to do was to use the Modify Font utility.  I needed to clear out some empty font definitions, and enter the names for the correct printer.

So I now have the fonts showing up, I can select them and assign them to text.  That is much better.

Now I just need to find out what the correct On/Off codes are.  And how to enter the esc code (027).  When I use the num keypad to enter the 027, it functions like an ESC key (which it is) and prompts me about escaping vs. typing the left arrow symbol.  and there does not appear to be any way to copy this code from another font.

But these are all problems unique to Q&A right now.  At least I have the font definitions available to work with.
Need to get this user to switch from Q&A to Sesame....aargh!

Thanks again for the conversions.

Bob,
It appears that a spam blocker prevented the last set of fonts I sent you from getting through. Are you using http://www.mailfrontier.com to prevent spam? I just got an email from them telling me that it blocked the email I sent (the one with the actual font files).

Did you get an email from me that contained both .afm files and .pfa files?

Yes, I did get them, Mark.

Yes, I am using Mail Frontier, you should only have seen that one time if you responded to it.

Problem now, as stated earlier, is how to enter the "left arrow" symbol for ESC in the print string for some of the fonts.  When I use "027" it functions as an ESC key and wants to Escape.  I may need to copy existing values from another font and then paste using DOS paste for the entry.  Then I will edit results.

Thanks for following up.  I am having discussions with account now about using another soluton.  I may have enough evidence to show some inherent difficulties in their plans.  At this point I am all set for testing.  Don't know if I will need fonts converted in future.

Thanks again.
