Reconcile Application Option #1

In the process of converting my Q&A databases to Sesame, I am left with a lot of unnecessary fields, usually "ghost" fields that were required for data-checking and for printing the same text in multiple places on my forms.

What I've been doing is deleting the element from the form and then going into Manage Fields and deleting the field in the batch.  Does this process clean the database up enough?  I have no need for storage of the data that exists in these fields, and want to wipe them clean.  From what I've read in the book, Option #1 "Delete a Field if...." sounds scary, but seems like what I'm looking for.  But I want to check before I royally screw things up.

Option #1 has the same end result as removing the fields from Manage Fields. One thing to note: If you use Option #1 the un-used fields will be removed from the DB file but they will still be in the DSR file. So you will need to re-create the DSR file from the DB file.

Not quite sure I follow your note, but it may not matter.  If I delete the element and then use Manage Fields to remove the field, I really won't need to use Option #1 at all, is that right?

Suggestion when you are removing the field in Manage database:

Click on the "+" sign in the left column for those fields you are deleting.  It will allow you to double check that the field is not bound to an element on a form/report that you forgot about.  If nothing shows up, then you can be sure you have deleted everywhere.

Cool, I was wondering what that display was all about.  Thanks Bob!
