In 2.0 it is possible using a feature called "selection layers".

Meanwhile, if you want everything on the tab, try right-clicking on the Tab and choosing Select All Elements On This Tab.

Sounds good, I'm hungrily looking forward to 2.0.

Yep.  More often than not I do this and then de-select the ones I don't want.  It sometimes takes a while, though, and occasionally I accidentally slip with the mouse and drag everything to a new location.  And, of course, "un-do" doesn't work because of "reparenting".  So at times it's frustrating.  I'll get better with practice, I'm sure, and be very proficient just before 2.0 comes out.  Undecided
