semding db and dat files

How can you send db and dat files by email and get them to work?
I received the files zipped, unziped them and get failure to open when I try to use them.
My first attempt was just to copy the dat file and when that didn't work I copied both the db and dat.

You must have BOTH the dat and the db file, together in the same directory.  It would be easiest to put them in the same directory as your other Sesame databases, but not necessary as long as they are together.

Are you opening them with the Database Manager and not with the Designer?  You can make designer files from the Manager if that is what you need.

If they still don't open, what is happening?
Are you getting an error message?
What is the message, exactly?

Harley,

We see this happen when the files were zipped while in use (loaded) by Sesame. They are locked. Unlock them and you should be able to use them.

I had unlocked them but that didn't help. I have used zipped files from Inside Sesame without problems.

Bob,
The db and dat are in the data directory. The message is the same as when files are locked.

I'll have them send the files unzipped and see what happens. Could be some other problem.

Hello Harley,

If the message is one line then the files are just locked and unlocking them will allow them to open.

If the message is two lines then it could be that the DB file and the DAT file are not a matched set.

I just found out only the dat file was sent - supposedly - but I received db, dat, dsr, ddt.
Evidentlly they had used a jump drive that had old files.
Therefore they are unmatched. I'm sure when I get a matched pair everything will be fine.
Right now their power is out so it will be a while.

Thanks,
Harley
