We're upgrading our server. Any suggestions?

My biggest question is, can sesame run well under Windows Server 2003 64-bit version?

Do we still want as much RAM as possible? Will sesame benefit from 8GB of Ram instead of 4GB?

Will Dual Xeon processors be advantageous? (Sorry, don't know Linux, so that's out.)

Will Raid 1 setup give us a speed boost in normal day-to-day use?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any advice.

It should do as well as any other 32 bit program.

Sesame can only benefit from up to 4 gig in linux and 2 gig in Windows - because it is 32 bit. But having the additional RAM will only help in that it will then be less likely that Sesame will have to share any part of that giggage with any other program

If client/server, yes - very much so.

Only a bit. Sesame is not very disk heavy, unless you are swapping memory.

Try to get the fastest bandwidth to your memory as you can afford. Plentiful, fast memory, with a fast path to the memory (not typical of PCs), will bring the most benefit. A spritely network won't hurt a bit either.

Did you decide on a configuration?

I just finished installing our new server and Sesame seems to like it. We are now running a Dell Poweredge 1900 with 2 Quad-Core Xeons at 2.66Ghz, 4MB cache 1333MHZ FSB, 8GB Memory (667MHz), 15K RMP hard drive, Windows Server 2003 64bit edition.

We are enjoying a big increase in speed during loading, mass udpates, and xlookups in sesame and I think we have plenty of room to expand.

Thanks for all your advice and for a good product.
