My boss asked me why he no longer needed to use his username and password to search a particular database. I thought this odd, so I opened SDesigner and opened the database in question. To my surprise I was not prompted for my username or password either (scary - think DESIGN!). Upon checking the Security Manager I discovered that all Groups and Users were GONE. I thought, no biggee, just reinstall them. However when I go to add myself as the first user (after creating the Group) I get an error message:
Error: Failed to save a user. (fred)
I've been going through Section 17 on page 425 of the manual, but nothing seems to allow me to save any User at any level, no matter which new Group I try to assign them to. I am listed in: X User Name in the Application Settings tab, along with my password, but this doesn't seem to be doing anything.

I should also mention that even if I create one new Group, named Admin, and assign admin rights and then save the design the next time I open the file the Group is gone. In fact even if I don't leave the database, just add the Group, click okay, and close the Security Manager box, and then reopen it, there are no Groups listed.

So??? (Always on the weekends - but that's when I work),
Fred

P.S. Really happy to hear about 2.0! Is there anywhere that lists the new features and improvements? I'd like to see something so I can start greasing the skids here at work. I know I'm switching at home!

I next tried to save the dsr file as a new application. I then opened the new app in sDesigner and tried to set up a Group and a User. It appeared to save it without the error message, but when I opend it back up the Group and User were gone again. I then tried to re-enter both, and got the error message as stated in my original post.

Since saving as a new app doesn't appear to work, what's the easiest way to transfer my data and programming to another app?

Just for grins I'm sending the dsr file to support in hopes somebody gets to take a peek.

Fred

Fred,

You may have a bad security record. Send it into Support so they can take a look at it.

Hello Fred,

Could you also send the DDT file that matches the DSR file that you sent in?

Will do Ray. May take a little bit of time - I'm at home (file is at work) and we're in the middle of a big snowstorm. I'll email our Sys Admin person and have him send it to me.

Hello Fred,

Could you also have him send you the s_log0000.log file from the server computer as well and then forward that to me as well?

Hey - thanks for all the SUPER-GREAT help with this (FYI to other visitors, we've done a lot behind the scenes). My bosses and IT are REALLY impressed with the level and speed of responsiveness to our issues. This will make upgrading to 2.0 SO much easier. They have seen first hand what I see on many weekends. Smiley

One (I hope) final question on this. I've been practicing export/imprt on files at home. Is there a way to select ALL the LEs versus selecting each one for export/import? The DB in question doesn't have that many - but another app has a ton!

Thanks, again and again and again......

To select all the elements, click on the button directly above the spec handler window, the one indentifying the current spec. If exporting it will say "Export Form Name" where form name is the name of your form. Clicking on it will open a short menu with Run, Set All, and Clear All as choices. Select "Set All" from the menu. If you are importing, setting all will also set the "Ignore Column". Usually you will want to deselect it before importing.

Cool - thanks Mark - this really is a "team" effort!

So - I'm wondering, as a team, have you guys (Lantica) EVER been stumped??? No one is that good! Or are you??
Thanks!!

You're welcome.

Yes, on occassion, we do get "stumped". But, we do have a distinct advantage. Being the authors of the program, we can look up the answers in Sesame's source code, or walk a door or two down and ask the author of the feature being discussed.

The answer was simple - send it to tech support and let them work their "magic". Don't know what the root cause was.
