Just curious about how people are perceiving MS's latest OS offering.

At home have basic machines that can't run Vista so will wate for new machine that will in a few years.  Just had XP for a couple of years!  At work mkany machines can't run Vesta and last year we upgraded to XP so we could run some programs.  So need to wait for new machinesa and Systens office to upgrade us.  Have no idea when that will be!

Having just read the article in Inside Sesame regarding Vista and Sesame, and even more so because of the issues related to Vista and Q&A, I am in no hurry to move to Vista.  I just sent my boss an email saying if he plans to buy any new workstations in the near future I want to order them now while I can still get them built to spec with XP Pro as the OS.  Vista, with its nag screens and whatnot, can take a flying leap, IMO.

While we haven't really tried everything yet, so far the testing in Vista for Sesame has been going very well. Sesame seems to be quite happy to run on Vista, and Vista seems to be fine with Sesame. Pretty much the only oddity has been an erroneous warning on installation.

Oops, sorry, I left my comments kind of open ended there, sorry Mark.   The article I read gave me no worries about Sesame running on Vista, it's the leaps and hurdles one has to go through to install any software that has put me off.  That and what sounds like serious incompatibility with Q&A, which we'll still be relying on heavily even after our migration is done (because I don't plan to migrate our entire historical record, just working data).

Well I had to go ahead and update to get use to it before getting the new workstations late this year or early next. After a little tinkering around, I have the nag screens gone, and have had no problems with Vista, hate to say this, Wink but it really seems to be more stable then xp, sesame runs like a charm in vista. I have run Q&A for windows a little in Vista, had no problems with it, have not tried qa for dos, don't expect I will ever need to. i'm using Vista business.

I'd be interested in learning how you got rid of those "nag" screens. I've only limited exposure to Vista - my brother-in-lw has it, but I was turned off by those nuisances right away.

1.Open control panel, user accounts , Turn off "user account control"
2.Internet Explorer 7, Tools-options-Advanced- scroll to Security settings put checks in the first three boxes, skip next four boxes, put checks in the next two, skip the next box, then check the next one, Enable the phishing filter.
3.Reboot and the nag screens are gone. Wink

We still have workstations running Win2000...I'm "upgraded" to XP Pro only because my hard drive crashed a couple of months ago.  With hundreds of workstations on two servers, I doubt we'll be seeing Vista soon.

I still have many clients with 95/98.  Many of them will probably skip 2000 and XP and jump directly to Vista, but not until Vista Version 2 is out with Service Pack 4. Roll Eyes
