Database failed to open

My database failed to open after loading up to 95%.  On checking the log file its says "Failure to read record at 8416".   I have gone back to a backup I made so have overcome my immediate problem.

The question I would like to ask is can anyone tell me the possible causes so that I do not make the same mistake again.

Thanks very much

Don

Hello Don,

Possible causes for that error message include mismatched DB and DAT files, Files that were reconciled to while they were open, Files that were in use by two or more copies of Sesame at the same time(Not Client/Server), or files that were being saved by the save process that happens right after load and the computer was suddenly shut off.

Other things such as hard drive failure could also cause that message.

Hello Ray

Thanks for the reply.  I suspect that it could have been when I was reconciling as I had been in designer to make a new report.  I did run the report in Preview, so I suspect that that would mean that two databases would be open at the same time. Or have I got that wrong?
