Running Sesame on Linux Without a GUI

Hi all,

I'm just trying out something curious, but until now still unsuccesful, so i hope anyone here can help me by my problem:

I got an INTRADISK-NAS System at home, which is running on linux (intel xScale ARM9) -->  http://www.intradisk.com.  The unit has no gui, so i planned to run my sesame server on that machine. But when i execute the order: "/sesame -server nasdrive" in the filesystem (via telnet and root rights) following things will happen:
-Long time nothing, the activity LED of the harddisk is blinking
-after a while: Killed

the log says following:
kernel: __alloc_pages: 0-order allocation failed (gfp=0x1d2/0)
kernel: VM: killing process sh

Is it generally possible to let sesame run as a server on this machine?

Thank you for all help

yours
Dirk

At the very least you will need to use the -daemon switch if you are running without a GUI.

Did you try any with daemon spelled correctly?  Wink

The plural of anecdote is not data.

Oh sorry, for that stupid mistake of myself. I was already happy that this really could be the mistake, but still got the same error listed above with the right spelling...
To go sure, i started the server in daemon-mode on my desktop win-os:
"sesame -daemon -server HOST"
it works on the windows machine without a gui greatly
when i type the same order into the embedded linux os:
HDD-LED blinking 2-3 mins
then Killed
and in the log-file:
kernel: __alloc_pages: 0-order allocation failed (gfp=0x1d2/0)
kernel: VM: killing process sh

I'm asking the nas-manufacturer for support too, to see if he knows a solution...

Thank you for your kind help and for your patience.. Smiley

Greetings,
Dirk

Dear all,...
i got reply from the support of intradisk, the developer of my "network attached storage"-hardware.

They say:

Quote:
you cannot run windows/ linux x86-applications with your Intel xScale ARM9 CPU. The embedded risc cpu only reads code, which has been especially compiled for it.
At www.nslu2-linux.org can be found many pre-compiled software which can be used in your machine ....

So with that "my dream" is died to run sesame server on my intradisk, unless there is an nslu2-version available.

How about the developer at lantica? Is it a big thing to run the code through an ARM9-Compiler in order to have also a running version on those machines like mine? The available nslu2-software is large and shouldn't be too unattracktive to not put sesame on this list to?

But i think i am an individual case, so the effort is not bearable?!

Thank you for your support&help
