[Solved] Cannot connect to Web server
Sep 2nd, 2007 at 11:28am
Print Post Print Post
Solution: Make sure that the port specified by the -web_server switch is open.

I want to use sesame 2.0 also as a web server.
On the server machine the browser is working fine with
http://www.fcl.co.at:4196/find.html.

But it is only on this machine working.

Sesame server is started with
e:\sesame2\program\sesame.exe -server www.FCL.co.at 20000:20001 -web_server 4196

I disabled the firewall, but this did not help.

Any suggestions for that problem?

Best regards
Walter

On another machine, when you browse to http://www.fcl.co.at:4196/find.html, what do you see?

Something like "timeout" but you can test it yourself. The server is always online, started with the command line, as mentioned before.

Thanks for your reply

I tried the link, and got a timeout.  Then I noticed it included a trailing comma.
So, I removed the trailing comma, and again, got a timeout.

I connected OK to the root domain: http://www.fcl.co.at
I then connected OK to http://www.fcl.co.at/find.html
I did not proceed from there, but am wondering if the URL is correct?  You are referencing port 4196, but that is not the 20000 port for the Sesame server.

I have not set up Sesame on the Web myself, so my comments may be misleading, just offering my observations, hoping that brainstorming may help out.

-------------------
Oops, found the URL comma is in Erika's link, but not in the original.

The URL is correct and working if you browse it on the server machine. The 20000 is for sesame server. Port 4196 is for the webserver.

I connected successfully to http://www.fcl.co.at/find.html at 3:35 PM EST.  However, the page shows 2 broken image links, the one referenced as upload/bilder/spacer.gif whose image map links to http://www.fcl.co.at/front_content.php?idcat=3 (which brings you right back to the same page, as do all the links on this page) and http://www.fcl.co.at/upload/bilder/upload/hanger7/upload/hanger7/da42-hanger7.jp...

The goal is not to connect to http://www.fcl.co.at, which is served by an appache server but to http://www.fcl.co.at:4196 which is the webserver from sesame.
Thank you for your help.

Ah, sorry, I got lost in the links in Bob's post.  I have to report no joy in connecting to http://www.fcl.co.at:4196.  My first thought would be a firewall problem, but on re-reading the thread I see you've disabled it.  Sorry I couldn't help.

FYI
I am still unable to connect to http://www.fcl.co.at:4196/
I normally use Firefox, but decided to try MS Internet Explorer this time.  Both browsers fail to connect.

Is the server machine behind a NAT router? If so, have you forwarded port 4196 in the router?

Walter,

According to telnet, the port itself (4196) does not appear to be open.
