[Solved] "NewSesameApplication" on S-Server screen
Oct 4th, 2007 at 3:01pm

Solution: An application is being used which has the title NewSesameApplication. Change the title using the Application Property Editor.

Over the last week or so, the entry "NewSesameApplication" has been appearing on the Sesame Server Open Applications screen.  I'm puzzled about this.  I've removed the functionality of the New/Open/Save buttons from my users, and only the Admin group can design/redesign anyway, and I'm the only Admin and I'm not creating any new apps, so....  ?

Just curious.

Do any of your applications still have NewSesameApplication as the application title?

Is somebody experimenting with designing new apps using Designer directly?

I don't see how.  SDesigner.exe isn't even on their workstations, just mine and the server.  But it's possible, I guess.

We don't just make up application titles to put in that box, so it's gotta be what Renee said, what I said, or something along those lines.

Scott,

To find out what file has that as an application title

Go into Server Administration on a client
Go to the backup Application Tab
Click on the one that says NewSesameApplication
Click Backup Selected Application

Then on the Server computer open Windows Explorer and open the Sesame2 Directory(or Sesame if that is what your Start In directory is set to)
You will see a new folder with the name of the applcation in question. It will be dated today and have in it a backup of the application that has the title of NewSesameApplication.

OK, did all that.  I selected NewSesameApplication and clicked "Backup Application".

It disappeared from the list.  No file was created.

I clicked "Refresh", and it came back.  Tried "Backup" again - it disappears.  "Refresh" - it's back.

There are ghosts in the machine.

Belay all that, I found it, I was looking in the wrong place.  It was the database I created (with Bob's help) to hold the monthly sales totals for previous years.  It only gets called by sales reports run at the beginning of the month which, what a coincidence, was just a few days ago.  I've renamed the app.  Thanks guys!

HI RENEE!

You're joining a magnificent crew.  Oh, and expect to see a lot of me, asking silly questions with obvious answers.  Please have patience and I'll send you candy and balloons.

You made reference to an application you made with my help.

If that is what I think it is, I may not have been clear, but I was suggesting a database in the existing app vs. creating another application.

It would typically only have one record, and could be programmed to limit it to one.  But you may also want to keep archival records, so I guess you could have more than one.

And for Renee, WELCOME TO THE FAMILY! Wink

I wanted to keep it "behind the scenes" instead of on the list of databases/forms that my users see.  They would have no reason to ever edit the data and I would not want them to, and it's only called to supply a single figure in the header of one specific report.

Right now it contains two records, one holding monthly sales figures for 2006 and one for 2007.  I add data at the end of each month when the final totals are calculated.  I love that it can keep archival information; saves me a lot of time going through paperwork.
