I am having varying results when sorting on item primary and date secondary.
Sometimes I will get dates from 1999 before subsequent dates and other times the sequence is
2000,1999,2000,2001,1999,2002,2000. I can sort again and the sequence is different. The 3rd time it is again different.
Is there a problem trying to sort on multiple items?

Not usually. Are you sure your date field is really a date field, as opposed to a text field where you are typing a date?

It is defined as a date field and after the sort I convert it to a string in the report and take the left 4 characters to extract the year.
The sort is done before the conversion.
