Mode when finding duplicates - "Removing"
Jul 11th, 2008 at 5:31pm

I've just started using the search for Duplicates functions, because somehow my Trucking and Rigging dispatchers managed to create 2 sets of invoices with the same invoice numbers.  (2 sets of duplicates).  This is supposedly impossible and I can't figure out how they did it; they probably did it on purpose to mess with my head, the bastids.

Anyway, I've been using "All Duplicates Search", so I (theoretically) see them all.  But during the process, the Mode box says "Removing duplicates".  So I am confused.  What is actually happening during the "removing duplicates" process?

Are you using the Duplicate Spec from Search mode or from Update Mode?

I go to a blank retrieve spec, Arrow the bottom left box (what is it called?) to Duplicates, set a D on the Invoice Number element, then hit All Duplicates Search on the command tree.  The Mode changes from Working to Finding to Removing.

I've tried this several times scott and the only time I can get removing to appear is when I am Removing Duplicates from Results.

I see it when I perform the search in two ways, the first as I've detailed above, and the second when I click the Duplicates bar and select "Run".  At that point a dialog box pops up and asks me if I want to do "All" or "All but one".  I select "All" and the Mode box goes "Working", then "Finding Duplicates" and the counter runs from 0 to 100%, then it shows a solid "Removing Duplicates 99%" state for several seconds.

Nothing is retrieved, which is good in a sense because I don't want there to be any duplicates.  But I get no "no records found" message, so there is some concern.  But it's minor.

I'll play with it in an offline copy of my application (because doing these searches with my working application is memory intensive and I get angry calls from my users when Sesame slows down.)
