install zipfile

I'm ready (almost) to have some of my customers use the Sesame client to place their own orders on my server through the Internet.  My idea is to have them load the Sesame client from a zipped batch file that creates and installs the Sesame directory and files either from a thumb drive, or by downloading the file from my website.   I would like to have the desktop Sesame shortcut (to my static IP and server ports) icon automatically created on their desktop.

My question for those out there who are much more computer-versed than I:  Can this shortcut icon be created and installed from a command line?  And if so, would you give me some tips on how to start/do that?

Something like this might do: http://www.optimumx.com/download/#Shortcut

I haven't tried it. It came up on a google search.

thanks Mark!  (I was googling too many words I think).  I've downloaded the file and readme, and will experiment with it.

I guess, alternatively, could I just make the shortcut icon with the parameters I want, and then make a copy of that shortcut to the install batch file, and then just have that shortcut.lnk file copied to the 'all users' desktop directory of the client computer?   I'll experiment with that, too.

You may also want to look at Inno Setup, the FREE installer program from jrsoftware: http://www.innosetup.com/isinfo.php. ; This file could be downloaded by your users from any site or your choice

Bob and Mark,

I checked out the links you suggested.  Innosetup did exactly what I needed - I downloaded it, installed it, learned it and created my setup.exe install file in just a couple of hours.   Thanks so much!!!
