A lot of people have had success using a text element bound to the same field as the radio button group, making it visible as appropriate when in search mode. Others have used a simple bit of retrieve spec programming to check the value of the group from within a different text element.

Binding two elements to the same field is simply a matter of selecting that field from the drop down "Bind Element To" in the Layout Element Adder when creating the second element.
