Spell Checker not working
Jul 26th, 2010 at 6:22pm
Print Post Print Post
In a client/server setup, Spellchecker does not appear to work. But in standalone mode, it works fine.

I have a dictionary.txt file in C:\sesame folder on both server and every client PC.  (We dont use a Sesame2 folder)

Sesame.ini file reads:

DICTIONARY PATH: C:\Sesame\Dictionary.txt

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Steve

Hello Steve,

Is that entry in the Sesame INI file on the Client or Server?

Sesame INI file in the C:\Sesame directory on the Client?
Start in of the Sesame icon set to C:\Sesame on the Client?
How are you testing Spell-checking?

Yes, ini file is in C:\sesame folder on both server and client.

I've never been certain about what the 'start in' field should be for each client. I just set my client Start In to C:\sesame (was C:\sesame\) and tested:

Opened a record in search mode.
Put the curser into a multi-line text LE and typed a few mispelled words into the LE.
Saved and then Pressed the 'spell-checker' button on the left-hand command menu.
Spell Checker pops up the text from the LE but never shows any errors.

Still no luck.

Hello Steve,

If you have a few minutes, I'd like you to give us a call here at support as I'd like to set up a GoToMeeting so I can see the client window and can see what is happening. The number here is 1-800-293-9549

No problem. I'll call this week to do that. Hopefully tomorrow.

Sincerely,
Steve

Hello Carl,

His INI file had the entire entry from the sample ini file, so it looked like the following

Quote:
DICTIONARY PATH: C:\Sesame\Dictionary.txt // CAN BE USED TO SPECIFY ALTERNATIVE DICT. FILE

And the entire chunk of

Quote:
C:\Sesame\Dictionary.txt // CAN BE USED TO SPECIFY ALTERNATIVE DICT. FILE

was being interpreted as the path to the Dictionary file. I've written up a report so that the next sample INI file will not have a comment on the same line.

Thanks Ray! It's always nice to know what was wrong, so we can avoid the same problem. Smiley
