If you already have the thumbnail as an image - yes.

If you need Sesame to read, render, and then "thumnail" a pdf - no. But it can call any software that will do so and then grab the resulting thumbnail image.

You might try this.  The GIMP can open PDF files as images.  I'm pretty sure it can be set to run from a script.  You would set up a script to open the first image, set the size, etc., then save.  That would assume that all the PDF's are the same page size, which will generally be a correct assumption.  An advantage is that the GIMP works under both Windows and Linux.

Probably the best thing would be to have a script external to Sesame that goes through once an hour or once a day and creates thumbnails for any PDF's that don't have one.

For Windows, google ThumbsExtract.exe and accompanying articles.  However, the thumbnails in Thumbs.db are of poor quality and the names of the cache files vart, so that's probably not a good way to go.
