Outlook Integration Library

I'm writing a library of programs and matching Sesame apps that enable integration with Outlook. So far, I've got the ability to make, list, and view Contacts, Appointments, Tasks, and Emails. Anything else I should be looking at?

Can you enable a user to 'jump' to a specific record or retrieve spec based on information sent to them in an email?

I can hand you the body of the email and you can parse whatever you want out of it. You can then use SBasic to take you to the record you've determined you should go to based on the info you extracted.

Can we do similar things with web-based email, contacts and tasks, such as gmail.. ?? The things are moving away from local computer to cloud lately. I do not even use my outlook anymore because of fear of viruses.

I don't like or use Outlook either, but clients keep asking me for these things.

Once I'm done with this, I can look into other APIs, like GMail. They each have to be addressed individually since they all work differently and provide a different API for access.

Thanks Erika. Looking forward to have those capabilities.  Just last night, I had to get contacts exported from gmail contacts to .csv file and then imported to Sesame. There are so many useless fields, it took me quite some time to remove garbage from .csv file to make it feasible to  import it to Sesame.

Dragging a file from a Windows program into Sesame is a terrific feature, but I can't drag an email attachment into sesame, without first saving the attachment to disk.

If you can grab attachment filenames, it would be cool.

Should be doable.

Any reason why you'd need to do that from Sesame instead of from Outlook?

I guess I'm not sure what you are doing.

Can't you also make, list and view Contacts, Tasks, Appointments, and Emails directly in Outlook?

Yes, but I can see a reason why you would want to click a button on a Sesame contact to add it to Outlook. Or set an Appointment in Outlook based on setting one in Sesame.

I'm not sure what you would be doing in Sesame that would need direct access to Outlook Rules.

If I use the API to get an email from Outlook it may have info that would want me to create a new Rule, perhaps based on the senders email address.  I could parse the email, create the rule, run the rule on the Inbox, and never need to handle emails from that sender again.  Would eliminate the need to leave program and go to Outlook to do that, or need to make a note to remember to make a rule later.

That was just a quick example, but I guess if the tools existed for all the databases in Outlook, then we would find more ways to put them to use.  So, I am suggesting that approach vs. limiting to what can be easily seen on some of the databases.

When you start to look at other email clients like gmail, please also consider Thunderbird and its Lightning AddOn.

Thanks for listening.
