Electronic Signature Capture

Does anyone have any experience with capturing signatures from electronic signature pads?

I have a doctor's office that wants to have the patients sign a signature pad to show that they understand the HIPAA privacy policies as well as insurance waivers. They currently have them sign paper, then scan it in, and destroy the paper. This office is totally paperless as far as patient records are concerned, so they want to skip the wasteful paper step.

I'm looking for recommendations on hardware/software solutions. I've seen a few online, but would like any feedback that the trusted group here can offer.

Thanks,
Carl

Hi Carl,

I know Jon McLaughlin has had success with using a signature pad from Topaz Systems and has written an article about it in the July 2007 issue of Inside Sesame.

Thanks Ray! I thought I searched IS, but I guess I used the wrong search terms.

Topaz Systems is one of the companies I was looking at. Jon indicated in his article that they are a good company to work with if you need support, so I guess that's where I will direct my client.

Thanks again,
Carl

I have been using signature pad from Topaz Systems for the last couple of years. It can capture signature on both Adobe Acrobat as well as Microsoft Word. I use it for HIPAA as well as for other documents that requires patient's signature.
