Sesame Database Manager | Feature Detail
Sesame is a true Client/Server program. But unlike so many client/server programs - we built
the client and the server into the same program. No more complicated setups, or difficult
to maintain architectures involving dozens of configuration files, registry entries, or always
lost .dlls. Setting up Sesame to run as a server is as simple as setting a single flag and
telling Sesame what machine to run on. Telling Sesame to connect as a client is just as
simple: set the "client flag" tell it the name of the machine to connect to, and you are on
your way. Whether acting as a client or a server, it is the exact same program you use to
run standalone.
Client/Server operation comes with Sesame Plus Edition and Sesame Professional Edition. Additional
seats can be purchased inexpensively and can be installed seamlessly into your current
setup.
The Sesame server is a true multi-threaded record locking server allowing simultaneous access
to your data (to the record level) across multiple clients. The server also supports connection
security, the ability to control what clients have access to which databases, passwords, and
directory control. Unlike file sharing, the data only moves across the network to the client
as it is needed, and only as much as needed. This make Sesame ideal for any kind of remote
access.
Multiple servers can run on the same computer allowing access to different databases to different
clients. A single server can also serve multiple databases simultaneously. Just about any
configuration can be quickly and easily setup and used. Even running a Sesame server on a web
server is no problem. Sesame uses the same protocol as the internet (TCP/IP). And,
because Sesame is available for Linux as well and all of the Win32 Windows platforms (Windows 95,
Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows ME, Windows 2000, and Windows XP) - whether client, server, or
standalone, you can run Sesame on a Unix based web server without any problems. If you purchased
your copy of Sesame for Windows, the Linux version is available for free on the very same CD. If
you purchase one version you get the other for free.
The Win32 and Linux versions of Sesame were created using the exact same source and at the same time,
neither is a "port" or translation. This assures that the program will look the same and act the
same whether you are running Windows or Linux.
